Vicks Herb (Plectranthus tomentosus) is a member of the mint family and the name says it all, it does smell like Vicks! The leaves produce a refreshing menthol, so it's perfect as a
decongestant.
Similar
to all other herbs, Vick's plant offers us numerous health benefits.
One major property of this plant is that it naturally clears up sinuses.
To use Vick’s plant for this purpose, simply pick some fresh leaves or top nodes of the herb (doing this will help the plant to have a dense growth
similar to pinching back basil).
Put the leaves in a pot or bowl containing just boiled water. Next, cover your head with a cloth and allow the steam to come towards you.
Inhale the vapours gently to help ease blocked sinuses.
It's also great for muscle aches, arthritis and bruising in the form of a balm or poultice. (avoiding open skin wounds).
This also can be helpful when rubbed on the chest or below the
nose.
Vick's plant can also be used as a stimulant rub, to help circulation in rigid and cold limbs.
As
an internal medication, Vicks Herb can be used as a remedy for treating
lung congestion and sinuses. It also works like an expectorant
helping to loosen up dense mucus and can treat fever when you inhale
the vapour.
Its potent menthol odour works excellently to repel mosquitoes. So indoor plants can help to keep these pesky insects at bay.
In addition, it works as a worm repellent as well.
This herb attracts plenty of bees and butterflies in the garden also.
