The Latin name for Valerian – Valere – literally translates as “to be well" and has been used for thousands of years to support emotional well-being, healing sleep, muscle relaxation, stress relief and more.
And even better, it tastes delicious! I like taking some in my licorice tea in the evening if needed.
Growing conditions - Valerian ideally likes to be in moist soil but she is hardy, and does really well with some afternoon shade.
To harvest - Lift the herb after 2-3 years of growth and harvest the roots in autumn, keeping some rooted plants to replant again.
Contraindications: not recommended to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, use with caution with sedative and anti-depressant medications.
Organically grown herb, in a compostable or recycled pot.
