We often think of turmeric as a culinary spice only, used in curry dishes to give them flavor and bright yellow color. But it is so much more than that, and very easy to grow!

The main constituent in turmeric is curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent or reduce inflammation in the body, with a strong antioxidant capacity also.

With inflammation thought to play a part in almost every disease, the benefits of getting this important substance are many:

  • Immune booster
  • Powerful antioxidant
  • Digestive health - gastric ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, dyspepsia, ulcerative colitis,
  • Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, protect stomach against ulceration.
  • Chronic skin disorders
  • Brain boosting
  • Heart health - lowering elevated cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, regulate blood pressure, blood clotting.
  • Weight loss - boost enzymes that reduce fat in the body.
  • Arthritis & rheumatoid arthritis pain & inflammation
  • Painful joints - bruises, bursitis, tendonitis, sprains, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome.
  • Liver health - protect the liver against toxic exposure, liver detox and balance.
  • Asthma
  • Cancer - prostate, colon, esophagus, pancreas, and breast.

Turmeric also has vitamins: C, B2, B3, B6, Folate, E & K.

Minerals: Potassium, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Copper & Manganese.

Turmeric is thought to support every system in the body with it's powerful antioxidant qualities!

Try it in some warm milk before bed at night, and add it to your cooking regularly.

Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) likes warmth and growing in rich, free-draining soil, with regular watering, full sun to partial shade. (I have some in my greenhouse as well as outside in the vegetable garden). Harvest tubers when the leaves and stem turn brown and dry off, leaving some tubers to regrow for next season.

All our herbs are organically grown in a recycled or compostable pot.
