Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is well-known as an edible root/bulb, but it has so many medicinal properties that are often underlooked.
It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, as well a being highly nutritious (and delicious).

The seeds are treasured in my garden (rather than the bulb), and will self-seed happily all year round. Kids often pick a leaf and munch on it for the yummy licorice taste.
In the garden, Fennel has small, bright-yellow flowers that are very attractive to many beneficial insects including bees and butterflies.
Fennel likes a full sun spot in free-draining, well-tilled soil, with mulch through the hotter summer months.
